Caltrans Renews Support for Aggregate Permitting

Caltrans has updated its letters and fact sheet for cities and counties on the need to permit aggregate resources.
Click to view letter as PDF.The letters and fact sheet are similar to ones issued in the past, but with emphasis on SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. The fact sheet, Construction Aggregate Supply Limitations Fact Sheet: Some Estimates of Economic Impact, provides fresh data on the environmental benefits of local sources of aggregates. The letters offer Caltrans technical assistance and information regarding local aggregate supplies and demand. The letters encourage local governments to “explore new strategies to increase aggregate reserves in your region, including education of local stakeholders, early public engagement, and willingness to collaborate in mitigation of environmental and transportation system impacts from aggregate production and distribution.
